| 2nd Drawing Attempt |

| | surprised | ] | I gave it another go with a second screen shot of the same character. I think it came out surprisingly well here. jdpuppy helped with a few tips too.
The beginning, I have found, is the hardest part of drawing - where to start and set up all the shapes and proportions to go together. But once that gets figured out, the process becomes a lot more tolerable.
Here is the sketch:

Here is the screen shot:

I'm going to try a few other things now that these two are out of the way. My main goal was to see if I can really draw "what I see" given the time to do it and seems that I can, at least to a point so far. |

| Attempt at drawing... |

| | surprised | ] | (Also posted on my FA)
So I've been reading Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards. Learning how to draw has been one of those skills I've been wondering how well I could pick up. It's definitely not an easy thing to do by any means. I truly admire the people who have this ability.
It really is hard to sit there and constantly try to perfect a pic you're drawing, noticing all the errors and having to fix them over and over again without driving yourself mad sometimes.
One thing I learned is that in order to draw, you have to REALLY see things out there. When you draw, you don't want to think of yourself as drawing an "eye" or "nose". What you want to focus on are all the lines, shapes and angles that make the figure you're drawing. Concentrate on that and you'll be surprised at how much your drawing starts looking the way you want it.
This drawing in particular is based on a character in an anime I recently found out about called Soul Eater. I haven't seen much of it, but it has this one character named Evans that I really like. He's this bad ass that's all about being cool - I can appreciate that ;) I found a pic of him online and wanted to try drawing it based on what I've learned. This is what came out.

It's obviously a pic drawn by a someone new at drawing, but I'm surprised it looks even close to the screenshot. I hope I can try out a few more drawings as time goes on. The screenshot I drew from is pasted below.

| | curious | ] | First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who left their well wishes regarding our anniversary. It was very much appreciated :)
Now MFF is coming up and neither JD and I really planned to go. The main reason being that we weren't crazy about the hotel last year. Now we're suddenly hearing about all these people we know who are going and it's tempting us to go.
But like I mentioned, we didn't really plan for it, so we have no room reserved. I guess I may as well ask. Do any of you have any potential room space to offer at the main hotel at this point? This may help tip the decision of what to do ^^ |

| | loved | ] | JD and I celebrated our 5th year anniversary together last week. I decided that my present was going to be a very nice commission pic done by a good artist friend of ours spunkywulf
As part of the plan, I donned my Jimmy Wolf fursuit before he came home. When he arrived, I waited in our bedroom and had the pic in a frame behind my back. When he found me, I wished him a Happy Anniversary and showed him the picture, which you can see below :) For anyone that knows just how much he enjoys eating (to keep up with that crazy metabolism of his), I think it works ^^

After a surprised smile and a big fursuit hug, he then told me he had something for me as well. He had this "I can't believe this happened" type of amused look on his face when he showed me. It turns out he also asked the same artist for an anniversary pic! LOL

We're sure spunkywulf had a fun little chuckle about this as we both went to her to get a similar type of gift around nearly the same time. Amusing indeed ^^ She really did an awesome job on both either way. Thank you Spunky!!!
On another day, we went to an amazing Italian restaurant called Bellavitae. The food was just terrific and we even received a free glass of wine each at the end of our meal. The highlight of the night though was the present JD gave me. Yup, he had another gift.
It was a small sketchbook that was full of sketches he put together. They were all memories of stuff we've done together over the years. As I looked through each picture, he recounted what each sketch was about until I got to the end, which was an empty page, because he didn't want the story to end... I nearly wanted to cry. It was so sweet.
I love you hun! Let's keep the story going for as long as possible *kiss* |

| Board Games - Cutthroat Caverns |
[Oct. 13th, 2009|12:27 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | happy | ] | I wouldn't consider myself the biggest board game nut, but there are some games I've been exposed to that I have found to enjoy quite a bit. One of them is a game called Cutthroat Caverns.
The game is based around a group of adventurers that fight a series of monsters that all have their own unique forms and attacks. You play together as a group to fight these monsters, but the way you actually win is YOU'RE the one that gives the monster the killing blow. Only then do you get the points. A big part of the game is to set things up so that happens.
The game is played with a deck of cards. There are attack cards (some that set up unique attacks), potion cards (some that heal, shield you etc.) and action cards. The action cards are used to make people miss their attacks, redirect creature attacks and other ways which try to screw your teammates over. While at the same time, there are action cards that can counter these maneuvers as well.
It's a fun game of back and forth where you're trying to work as a team, but just enough so that you win. Alliances and foes can form during the game as you play with and against each other. The situations that occur can be downright funny :)
I'm a fan of the RPG video game genre, when I have the time/chance to play them these days, so a game like this turned out to be right up my alley. Have any of you played this game before? It has some interesting expansions that mix up the game even further. Below is a video review of the game that does a pretty good job explaining the mechanics.

Has everyone who is interested in going signed up yet? The deposit deadline is in over a day! :)
Never done the whole cruise ship in the Caribbean thing before. Sounds like fun! |

I actually haven't heard of this game until I saw it on gaygamer.net today. This looks pretty good! It's programmed by ONE GUY and 2 composers. That in itself is amazing.
You can check out his website at http://www.elysiantail.com/
He's even got a movie in the works. Impressive. |

| [ | mood |
| | content | ] | For those of you that I haven't told already, I am a new, proud owner of Ozzy the beagle, formerly owned by nevermint :)

Prancing around in it during AC was quite fun, especially when people had no idea who it was under the suit ;) The outfit Ozzy is wearing above was just a silly, intentionally bad, "alien" costume for Ozzy to wear to fit with the theme of the con. I wore that during the fursuit parade.
Anthrocon was a fun con. One big downer was on Monday, when the elevators were constantly full of people and I had to pretty much wait forever on the 21st floor for a free elevator to go down in. After over half an hour of waiting (I think it was that long, could be longer), I finally said screw it and took my clothes bag along with my 2 big fursuit/gear bags and walked down all 21 flights to the lobby. Thank goodness for all the personal training I've been going through at the gym for the past half year. It definitely helped - not sure if I would have survived that trip otherwise, hehe.
Next con in the plans is Megaplex later this month! It also happens to fall during jdpuppy's birthday. Should be interesting! |

| | happy | ] | I wanted to thank everyone for their birthday wishes. It really turned out to be a great weekend.
Friday - The Brazilian BBQ was great, as usual. The cuts of meat were wonderfully tasty and I was more than full by the end of the night - ginger steak, pork loin, ribs, chicken, filet, sausage... the meat just kept coming and coming. I was a full, content canine after dinner was over :D
Saturday - Furry Barbeque run by tonyringtail. This went quite well! The food was awesome and jdpuppy decided to surprise me yet again this year with a birthday cake and a round of "Happy Birthday" from everyone there. Damn sneaky dog ;) I loooove chocolate cake. Thanks hun!
Sunday - Went out to Folsom East with quentincoyote, ethanhusky, snow_kitty and a few others. Checked out kinky stuff and drank in a crazily crowded bar. It was a fun experience :)
Earlier last week, jdpuppy and I went to see Kooza, Cirque Du Soleil's latest show. It was the first Cirque show I've seen and it was great! One of the acts is called the Wheel of Death and definitely stole the show for me. Here is a video of it:
It is impressive, but nothing compares to watching this live though. Seeing them do those crazy tricks right in front of you, wondering if they'll trip and fall just makes your heart stop. |

| | contemplative | ] | Hey all! As some of you may know, my suit Bobby Bobcat has been entered into the fursuit tourney this year. Thanks nekomon ^^
First time I'm in it too. I know it's all for fun and giggles but I think this could also be a way for my character to get more exposure out there since he, admittedly, doesn't have a lot of it.
So for those of you who follow the tourney, I'm up for voting some time today, the 28th :) This is the link to the community - fursuittourney |
